The dream of the 90’s is alive in…
When visiting The Pickering Markets, down aisle D, you’ll come across a little shop called Vintage 905. Now, if the name sounds familiar to you, don’t be surprised, it’s getting a lot of traction on social media, specifically on Instagram. Vintage 905 was the result of Gavin & Ross, the Clark brothers. Local Durham hobbyists turned entrepreneurs.
Move over Portland…the 90’s are back in town and this time, it’s happening in Pickering Markets!
Less than a year ago, Gavin and Ross created Vintage 905 out of curiosity and experimentation. For many years before this venture, the Clark brothers were avid vintage shoppers, always checking out local stores, as well as searching online for the best items to include in their epic 1990’s collection. Their personal collections included records, clothing, posters, shoes, and were the envy of their friends. Gavin and Ross decided to test out the waters and created an instagram page featuring items for sale and they found that every day they were gaining more followers and interest in their products. As their online presence grew, they decided to expand and knew a dedicated store would be needed. After all, the Clark brothers were dealing with shoppers who are also vintage enthusiasts like themselves, inspecting quality for their top dollar. The affordability and popularity of Pickering Markets made it an easy location choice for the Clark’s brothers to dive into the local market.
The nostalgic induced atmosphere is something that the Clark brothers are extremely proud of. Once you walk into the store, it feels like a bit of a time warp, over in the corner there is a mini tube TV with a VHS player attached to it, playing authentic WWE wrestling matches. An E.T lunch tray propped up, records hung along the wall and squeaky clean 90’s sneakers! I won’t even mention their nod to the classic, and in their opinion the best sitcom of all time, Seinfeld, with their fun logo! Growing up in the late 80’s into the 90’s, Gavin and Ross has such affection for that era; they naturally gravitated towards collecting items they had fond memories of. It makes it worthwhile for them to see new and old customers walk down memory lane, while shopping at Vintage 905. What is their favourite item? Well that was quite a tough decision, they truly love every single handpicked item in the store – but they both agreed it was the classic wresting t-shirts. You can’t go wrong with a rockin’ 90’s wrestling tee!
Although, this 90’s haven isn’t always stuck in the past, you’ll see flashes of present day when the owners smart phones appear. Gavin Clark manages their social media accounts and makes sure that every weekend his customers are featured on their instagram stories. Being current on social media is integral to Vintage 905, they have met so many new people through the local vintage community and even have international fans of the shop, shipping items all over the world. It is quite easy to write about all the details, owners Gavin & Ross, have put into their shop and efforts in choosing the best of the best items to offer at the store. But the only way to really understand is to visit Vintage 905 booth D-704 &705 at Pickering Markets.
